Do I need to give my dog heartworm medication?

Basic Dog Care 10 | Do I need to give my dog heartworm medication?

If your dog will never leave our area, Claremont/Upland/Rancho, you probably don’t need heartworm meds. The mosquito that transmits heartworm disease in dogs is not commonly found here. So why over-treat? Natural essential oil insect repellents may be all your dog needs.

But if you plan to travel or camp with your dog, you should contact veterinary offices in the areas you plan to visit and find out if heartworm is a problem there. If you will need heartworm prevention, contact us for our recommendations. Waiting until you get back from a heartworm-infested area can be risky for your dog.

Whatever heartworm solution you need, we can help.
